The Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt of Concert Poster Auctions!
By their very nature, the outcome of concert poster auctions, and the prices you receive selling in them, is always uncertain. Depending on your personality, this inherent quality can either be a “feature” or a “bug”.
If you’re the type of person that enjoys gambling and the thrill of an emotional rollercoaster, then consigning at auction can be exciting and worthwhile.
However, if you are methodical person that desires total control and certainty over how much you will receive for your material, then auctions may not be for you.
In addition to having the correct philosophical framework, selling at auction also requires you to face other challenges. Most importantly, to successfully sell at auction, you must be highly confident that you will be offering very desirable material that can stand out and distinguish itself from the hundreds of other competing lots.
Make no mistake about it, when you consign a concert poster to auction, you are entering it into a competition.
Your poster will be competing for the bidder’s attention. Common “run of the mill “ material that appears at auction can easily fall through the cracks, earning little attention or bidding except from the shrewd buyer looking to pick off “a steal” at a bargain basement price level. After all, “scoring a deal” is a major reason why many collectors participate in auctions in the first place.
That being said, if you have desirable material that can distinguish itself from the pack, auctions can be a great way to obtain a fantastic price. A detailed analysis of exactly which posters are best candidates to be sold at auction appears at the end of this report.
